FAQS

Is there a waiting list?

As of 2026, there is no waiting list for new members. If membership numbers reach capacity in future seasons, the club may introduce a waiting list. You will be advised at the time you apply whether a waiting list is in place.

Can you explain the work party requirements?

New members are asked to complete one weekend work party each year for two years. Work parties are usually held across two weekends in March, April, or May, and your opportunity to attend normally begins the year after you join. This is a one‑off requirement and does not continue every year.

Do you have a family membership?

Yes. We offer family rates for joining, and annual subscriptions are charged per adult and per junior. Junior membership is generous — juniors may remain in that category until age 21, or age 23 if they are still full‑time students.

Can I take guests?

Yes. Guests are welcome when space allows. Guest bookings are confirmed 10 days before a weekend stay, or two weeks before a mid‑week stay.

Will I be expected to share a bunkroom?

Where possible, families and groups are placed together in a bunkroom. During busy periods, shared rooms may be necessary.

How far ahead do I have to book?

As early as possible. Priority bookings for winter open 1 May, and general bookings open 1 June. If you need to cancel, bunk nights must be cancelled 10 days before the first night of your stay.

What do I need to bring?

Bunkrooms are supplied with pillows, duvets, and extra blankets. You’ll need to bring your own linen (sheets, pillowcase, and duvet cover — or a sleeping bag), plus towels and toiletries. Please note: there are no laundry facilities available for member use at either lodge.

Members often bring cheese, crackers, nibbles, and drinks for après‑ski. A small members fridge is available for storing personal items.

There is a Nespresso coffee machine available, but you'll need to bring your own capsules.

Where do I park for the Whakapapa lodge?

Parking at Whakapapa is free and available on a first‑come, first‑served basis, with around 1,800 spaces at the base area. Always check the road status before heading up the mountain.

Most members park wherever they can find a space near the Top of the Bruce. Please note that car park #1 is locked overnight and any vehicles left after 5pm risk being removed or fined.

If you are staying overnight, it’s good practice to park facing downhill, avoid using the handbrake, lift your windscreen wipers so the rubber doesn’t freeze to the glass, and keep a shovel in your vehicle.
