Why Join?
Tongariro Ski Club is one of the oldest on Ruapehu and was founded in 1932 when a five-room hut was built at the Top of the Bruce. In 1995, forty-three years on the Whakapapa Lodge was rebuilt to provide a modern first class facility.
The Ohakune Lodge was built in 1985 to cater for additional members and to take advantage of the Turoa ski field, which many of the snowboarding members of the club prefer.
The club is fortunate to have the services of many competent and dedicated members who have a spirit of sharing and participation. A committee of elected members takes responsibility for maintaining the strong financial status of the club.
Senior members may book friends into the lodges. Children automatically become members at 5 years of age and may transfer to senior membership as young as 18.
The club has always provided the best facilities for its members and their guests. Over the 2004/2005 summer, the Ohakune Lodge has been redecorated with new carpet, lounge furniture and appliances.
Club facilities and services include:
- Full time qualified chefs, providing tasty hearty meals
- All meals provided
- Both lodges have a spacious lounge with fireplace, games room and sundeck.
- Comfortable rooms, sleeping 2-6 people.
- Accommodation for live-in chefs
- Drying rooms
- Ski and board tuning facilities
- All age group club races and inter club race teams
- Free training weekends, for both junior and senior members
- Both lodges are available for out of season bookings, a great place to spend a few days in the summer
- Proximity to car park and chair lifts at Whakapapa and to the Mountain Road at Turoa.
